Rhön Kirchenburg town visitors wanting a free two-day Marktstraße fest with Bieranstich and Sunday market.
Booking urgency
Low — free street fest; Saturday's Partyabend fills Marktstraße earliest.

38th Ostheimer Stadtfest — 20–21 June 2026 on Marktstraße under the 'Ostheim gehört erlebt' banner.

Ostheim vor der Rhön's 38th Stadtfest opens Saturday 20 June at 16:00 with a Festumzug procession through the historic center, followed by the 16:30 Bieranstich and a free Partyabend; Sunday 21 June is the Markttag, with market stalls and open Sunday shopping along Marktstraße. The 2026 edition runs Saturday–Sunday only, a scaled-back two-day format ahead of a planned 2027 festival redesign.

The full story

Ostheimer Stadtfest turns Marktstraße and the historic center of Ostheim vor der Rhön into a free, car-free street festival for one weekend each June. The 2026 edition, the 38th, runs Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June: Saturday opens at 16:00 with a Festumzug procession through the old town, followed at 16:30 by the ceremonial Bieranstich, and rolls into a free evening Partyabend with live music from Deschawü. Sunday shifts to the calmer Markttag, with market stalls in the town center and shops opening for a dedicated Sunday shopping day. Entry to the street fest and the Partyabend is free throughout; visitors pay only for food and drink.

Where recent editions have run Friday through Sunday, 2026 is deliberately compact — a two-day, Saturday-to-Sunday format rather than the fuller three-day weekend — positioned as a transition year ahead of a redesigned Stadtfest concept planned for 2027. Visitors who remember a longer Friday-opening weekend from past years should plan around the shorter 2026 run rather than expecting the earlier format back this year. The festival sits directly around Ostheim's fortress church, Germany's largest and best-preserved Kirchenburg, making a festival visit an easy pairing with a walk through the fortress grounds.

The Stadtfest has run for decades — 2015 already put it at its 29th edition, well before reaching 2026's 38th — but its founding year is unstated. The run of editions also isn't perfectly unbroken: the count implies the festival skipped at least one year somewhere along the way, though the reason isn't known. Ostheim vor der Rhön's tourism office also runs other named events through the year, including the separate Rhöner Wurstmarkt sausage fair, Kirchenburg in Flammen, and Fleurs & Flair — distinct festivals from the Stadtfest, not additional days of it. Eat & Drink Nearby

Local specialty
A Bieranstich (ceremonial keg tapping) opens Saturday evening, with standard Stadtfest food and drink along Marktstraße through Sunday's Markttag.
Pair it with
Ostheim's town-square stalls on Sunday if you want daytime market food after Saturday's parade and keg tapping.
Itinerary fit
Free admission to the Partyabend — a two-day small-town fest best visited for either the Saturday parade-and-tap or the Sunday market, not necessarily both.
