Pentecost weekend wine fest at Sommerach’s WEINREICH — cooperative wines, food, and live music.
Over Pentecost 2026 (22–25 May), Winzer Sommerach turns the WEINREICH at Zum Katzenkopf 1 into a four-day wine party for the 20th Pfingstweinfest. Expect Franconian bottles from the cooperative cellar, catering by a soulfood kitchen, and evening bands. Friday entry is free; Saturday through Monday require a €3 wristband from 18:00, or a €7.50 all-days Dauerkarte.
The full story
The Sommeracher Pfingstweinfest is the flagship public event of Winzer Sommerach eG, Franconia's first and oldest wine cooperative — founded in 1901 when 35 winegrowing families banded together against phylloxera damage and collapsing prices, and today numbering roughly 90 families farming some 200 hectares, including the prized Sommeracher Katzenkopf site the festival's own WEINREICH venue is named for. 2026 marks the fest's 20th edition, running Friday 22 through Monday 25 May on a clear daily rhythm: free admission and wine service from midday Friday, then a paid wristband (€3 from 18:00, or a €7.50 all-days Dauerkarte) Saturday through Monday, alongside a published nightly lineup — DJ S'Towner, Brass Brachial, Monkeyman Band, and a closing Fränkisch Swing Big Band on Whit Monday — and food from an on-site soulfood kitchen.
Two things worth keeping straight: the cooperative's own 1901 founding is a fact about the institution, not the festival, which is a much younger 21st-century tradition; and Sommerach itself runs a second, entirely separate wine festival later in the year, a July street event under different organizers, that shouldn't be confused with this Pentecost weekend fixture. For a structured, guided alternative to open tasting, the cooperative also runs an optional cellar-master Weinbummel — roughly two hours, four wines included, offered on festival weekends.
