Quick answer
Feuchtwangen's 48. Altstadtfest ran over the weekend of 6 and 7 June 2026 only — Monday isn't part of the event. An open street festival spread across five stages in the Altstadt. Not to be confused with Ansbach's own, unrelated Altstadtfest the same weekend.
- Best for
- Visitors who want a compact Franconian Altstadt weekend (Marktplatz lanes, not a giant Festzelt field).
- Booking urgency
- Open city fest — no gate tickets stated; book lodging early for the festival weekend.
48th Feuchtwangen Altstadtfest — 6–7 June 2026 across the medieval lanes.
Feuchtwangen’s Altstadtfest spreads across Marktplatz, Museumstraße, Herrenstraße, Forstamtsgarten, Röhrenbrunnen and neighbouring streets. The 2026 edition ran over the weekend of 6–7 June.
The full story
Altstadtfest Feuchtwangen turns the historic old town of Feuchtwangen — marketed locally as the "Festsaal Frankens," Franconia's festival hall — into an open-air music and community weekend every June. The 2026 edition, the 48th, runs Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June only; Monday isn't part of it. It opens Saturday at 4pm with a ceremonial procession and a concert by the town's own marching band, then spreads across five stages — the Marktplatz, Museumstraße, Herrenstraße, and the Forstamtsgarten garden — with genres from brass and Wirtshausmusik through rock, DJ sets, and an Italian evening with tango dancing. Sunday shifts tone: a morning church service, an open-shopping window from noon to 5pm, family programming (carousel, face painting, a children's theater ensemble), and a calmer 6–9pm close at the Röhrenbrunnen fountain with a beer bar and a finale of hunting-horn players. There's no gate or ticket booth; food, drink, and any paid activities are priced separately.
The festival dates to 1977, when the organizing merchants' association, Gewerbeverein "Spitze" e.V., launched it — one of only two flagship annual Feuchtwangen traditions. The town itself is far older, growing out of a Benedictine monastery first mentioned in writing in 818/19, plausibly founded in the late 8th century; none of that monastic history belongs to the much younger festival.
One thing worth being precise about: this isn't Ansbach's own Altstadtfest, a separate event in a different Middle Franconian town that happens to run the exact same weekend — 3–7 June 2026 — under the identical, generic name. Search for "Feuchtwangen" specifically, not "Altstadtfest" alone. See Altstadtfest Feuchtwangen page or explore Middle Franconia.
History
Altstadtfest Feuchtwangen dates to 1977, when the organizing merchants' association, Gewerbeverein Feuchtwangen 'Spitze' e.V., launched it — one of only two flagship annual Feuchtwangen traditions, alongside the separate, unrelated Mooswiese festival. The town itself is far older, growing out of a Benedictine monastery first mentioned in writing in 818/19 with roots plausibly reaching the late 8th century — none of that monastic history belongs to the 1977-founded festival. Feuchtwangen shares its exact 6–7 June 2026 weekend with a same-named, unrelated Altstadtfest in Ansbach, also Middle Franconia — the two are entirely separate events under an identical, generic name.
