Six-day community Volksfest in Vaterstetten with Stiftl Festzelt, Augustiner, and rides on the Baldhamer Straße grounds, 11–16 June 2026.
Vaterstetten's Volksfest is a Gemeinde-run community fair on Munich's eastern edge. The 2026 edition runs six days — one day longer than recent prior years — with the Stiftl family's tent pouring Augustiner. 2026 is the Stiftl family's second and final year running the tent before a new operator takes over in 2027.
The full story
Vaterstetten's Volksfest is a Gemeinde-run community fair on the eastern edge of Munich, held each June on the town's own Festplatz at the corner of Baldhamer Straße and Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße. The 2026 edition runs six days, Thursday 11 through Tuesday 16 June — one day longer than the festival's recent run length — with a single tent operated by Wirtepaar Lorenz and Christine Stiftl, pouring Augustiner from wooden barrels alongside Bavarian food from the family's own butchery. It's a compact, single-tent Volksfest built for a commuter town rather than a big-city crowd, and 2026 is only the Stiftl family's second year running it.
The week follows a set rhythm: Thursday opens with a standing concert in front of the Rathaus, a procession of local clubs and associations to the grounds, and a keg-tapping by the town's First Mayor. Sunday morning brings a church service inside the tent, Saturday afternoon is set aside for families with reduced prices, and Monday afternoon belongs to seniors with live music. The closing Tuesday afternoon repeats the family discount alongside puppet theatre and face-painting for children. The 2026 edition also adds two new rides, a Musik Express and a Pop Star-style attraction, and — as a one-time hook specific to this year — a Sunday-evening screening of a Germany World Cup group match inside the tent.
The festival's founding year is unstated — it's best described simply as a long-running annual fixture. 2026 is the Stiftl family's last year running the tent: a different operator takes over from 2027. Visitors drawn to the current Augustiner-and-Stiftl combination should plan their 2026 visit with that in mind, whether for the Thursday opening, a family afternoon, or simply an evening in the tent.
