Quick answer
The Regensburger Maidult is Regensburg’s spring Volksfest on the Dultplatz at Protzenweiher in Stadtamhof, with beer tents, a goods market (Warendult), and rides. For 2026 it ran 18 days from Ascension Day — 14 through 31 May 2026 — with a free RVV Dult-Bus from the Hauptbahnhof; the tradition traces to a 1389 market privilege for Stadtamhof (over 600 years).

The Regensburger Maidult is the city's spring Volksfest on the Dultplatz at Protzenweiher in Stadtamhof: Festzelte, a genuine Warendult goods market, rides, and family-friendly programme days, a short walk from the UNESCO old town. Beer tents pour from Regensburg's own breweries, including Kneitinger, Bischofshof, and the small-batch Spitalbrauerei. The 2026 Maidult spans 18 days, Ascension Thursday 14 May through 31 May. It's one of two annual editions of the same civic tradition — the autumn Herbstdult runs later in the year at the same venue — tracing to a 1389 market privilege for Stadtamhof and over 600 years of continuity. A free Dult-Bus links Hauptbahnhof and Dultplatz during the run.
The full story
The Regensburger Maidult is the spring half of Regensburg's twice-yearly Dult tradition, held on the Dultplatz at Protzenweiher in the Stadtamhof district, just across the Danube from the UNESCO-listed old town. The 2026 edition runs 18 days, from Ascension Thursday (14 May) through the last Sunday of May (31 May) — the tradition traces to a 1389 market privilege granted to Stadtamhof, more than 600 years of continuous history shared with the autumn Herbstdult, which runs later in the year at the same venue under the same organizer.
The festival combines a genuine Warendult goods market — a real holdover of the original medieval market privilege — with a full fairground of rides and several beer tents pouring from Regensburg's own breweries, including Kneitinger, Bischofshof, and the small-batch Spitalbrauerei. Two Familientag Wednesdays (20 and 27 May) bring half-price rides for families, and dedicated Seniorentag pricing runs Monday 18 May and Tuesday 26 May, both with special Dult-Bus service. A Höhenfeuerwerk fireworks display closes out Friday 22 May at 22:00. A free RVV Dult-Bus links Regensburg Hauptbahnhof directly to the grounds, removing the parking headache that limited on-site parking near Stadtamhof would otherwise create.
Worth knowing: "Maidult" is a generic term used across Bavaria — Munich's Auer Dult cycle and Passau both hold their own — so the "Regensburger" name is the useful qualifier when searching. And this Maidult isn't a duplicate of the separate Regensburger Herbstdult — the Herbstdult covers the autumn dates (28 August–13 September 2026), the sister edition of the same institution, at the same venue, run by the same organizer. See Regensburger Maidult page or explore Upper Palatinate.
History
Regensburg has been a trading center since Roman times, and its Dulten (traditional markets) date back centuries. The city's position at a crossing point of the Danube made it a natural gathering place for traders and travelers. The Maidult marks the start of the fair season in the Upper Palatinate region.
