Schützenverein birch-forest fest in Rehberg (Grainet) — 5–7 June 2026.

Birkenwaldfest is a Bavarian Forest community celebration run entirely by the local Schützenverein (marksmen's club) in Rehberg, part of Grainet. Now in its fifth decade, it's a heated-tent weekend with live bands Friday and Saturday, a Sunday Frühschoppen with brass-band music, and a small children's funfair — a modest, authentically local alternative to the region's larger commercial Volksfeste.

The full story

Birkenwaldfest Rehberg is a three-day community festival run entirely by the local Schützenverein (marksmen's club) in Rehberg, a small hamlet that's part of the municipality of Grainet in the Bayerischer Wald. The 2026 edition runs Friday 5 June through Sunday 7 June at the club's own Schützenheim grounds. Friday and Saturday evenings bring live-band dance parties inside a heated tent; Sunday shifts to a traditional Frühschoppen — late-morning brass-band music and beer, rolling into an afternoon of regional music and a closing evening raffle. A small children's funfair runs alongside the tent, and a Sunday cafeteria adds a homemade-cake option. Grounds admission is free.

The club itself was founded in 1957; its members launched the Birkenwaldfest twenty years later, with the 1st Rehberger Birkenwaldfest running 9–12 June 1977, alongside the club's earlier milestones (a switch to air rifles in 1958, its first club shooting-king title in 1960, joining the regional Schützengau federation in 1967). The two dates matter: the club is 1957, the festival is 1977, and the festival has run every year since, independently confirmed in 2015, 2016, 2025, and 2026.

Beer runs through a heated main tent and a separate Pilsner pavilion, with the house beer supplied by Lang Bräu, a historic Freyung brewery dating to 1813. Because Rehberg is a small Ortsteil rather than an independently mapped town, visitors should navigate to the Grainet address — Graineter Str. 4, 94143 Grainet — rather than searching "Rehberg" as a standalone destination. See Birkenwaldfest Rehberg page or explore Lower Bavaria.

History

Schützenverein Birkenwald Rehberg was founded in 1957, and its members launched the Birkenwaldfest twenty years later — the 1st Rehberger Birkenwaldfest ran 9–12 June 1977. The two dates are separate and shouldn't be merged: the club is 1957, the festival is 1977. It has run annually ever since, with editions independently confirmed in 2015, 2016, 2025, and 2026.
