Five-day Lower Bavarian Volksfest on Plattling’s Festwiese — 3–7 June 2026.

Plattling's Volksfest is a classic Lower Bavarian Festwiese event with rides, food, and tent culture scaled for a mid-size town, opened each year by a 2,500-plus-person procession of local clubs and associations, including horse-drawn wagons from the town's two participating breweries. The 2026 edition ran a five-day window, Wednesday 3 June through Sunday 7 June. It's a separate event from neighboring Deggendorf's own similarly named Volksfest/Frühlingsfest, held on a different calendar in the same district.

The full story

The Plattlinger Volksfest is a five-day, community-scale Lower Bavarian Volksfest on the town's Festwiese, running Wednesday 3 June through Sunday 7 June for the 2026 edition. It opens with a concert at the town hall, followed by a procession of more than 2,500 local club and association members — including horse-drawn wagons from the town's two participating breweries — out to the grounds, where the mayor taps the first keg to start the festival. Inside the Festzelt, folk and party bands alternate through the evenings; outside, touring showmen run the rides and games. Thursday is set aside as a seniors' afternoon and Saturday as a children's afternoon with discounted ride pricing.

Beer comes from two sources rather than one, a bit unusual for a festival of this size: Bräu zur Isar, Plattling's own house brewery, pours its Helles, Weizen, and dark wheat beer, while Arcobräu, a much larger and considerably older brewery based in nearby Moos, brings its well-known flagship Helles. Arcobräu's own roots reach back to 1567 — roughly 450 years of brewing history — but that age belongs to the brewery, not to this Volksfest, whose own founding date remains unknown. The festival grounds sit on Plattling's Rennbahngelände, which carries its own decades-long identity as a sand horse-racing course and now also serves as the local football club's home stadium — another institution whose history shouldn't be mistaken for the festival's own.

Two things are worth knowing before planning a visit. First, the festival's calendar placement shifts noticeably from year to year — dated editions span 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026, from late May through late June — so a repeat visitor shouldn't assume "the same week" as a prior year. Second, this is not neighboring Deggendorf's Volksfest: that similarly named event, in the same district, is now marketed as a Frühlingsfest and runs on an entirely different calendar window in late April to early May. See the Volksfest Plattling page or explore Lower Bavaria.

History

The Plattlinger Volksfest's own founding year is unstated, and unlike some neighboring Volksfeste it doesn't carry a numbered-edition count either — its own age should stay unstated rather than borrowed. Two much older institutions sit right alongside the festival and shouldn't be confused with it: Arcobräu, one of the two breweries in the opening procession, was founded in Moos in 1567, roughly 450 years of brewing history; and the festival's own Rennbahngelände venue carries its own decades-long identity as a sand horse-racing course, now also the local football club's home stadium. The festival recurs annually — editions land in 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026 — though its exact calendar placement shifts noticeably from year to year rather than sitting on a fixed week.
