Single-day organic wine fest by Würzburg’s Alte Mainbrücke — 6 June 2026.
The Bio-Weinfest is a compact, sustainability-focused wine gathering organized by the Bund Fränkischer Ökowinzer (FÖW) and the local Öko-Modellregion stadt.land.wü., pouring exclusively certified-organic wine from a small, named roster of Bioland, Demeter, and Naturland producers in Würzburg's riverside old-town core. It received 50% state co-funding as an 'exceptional project' within Bavaria's Öko-Modellregionen sustainability programme.
The full story
The Bio-Weinfest brings a small, exclusively organic-certified wine list to Am Grafeneckart, a landmark plaza in Würzburg's old town beside the Alte Mainbrücke and the Vierröhrenbrunnen fountain. The 2026 edition, its second, runs Saturday 6 June from noon to 11pm — longer and later than the 2025 debut's 10am-to-8pm window, a sign the format is still settling rather than fixed. It's organized by the Bund Fränkischer Ökowinzer und -Weingüter e.V. (FÖW), a Franconian organic-winegrowers' association founded in 1991, together with the Landkreis Würzburg's Öko-Modellregion stadt.land.wü. sustainability programme, which secured 50% state co-funding for the festival as an "exceptional project."
A small, named roster of regional producers pours across three organic certifications side by side — Bioland, Demeter, and Naturland — from villages including Frickenhausen, Theilheim, and Randersacker, all within the Würzburg wine district. Organic food comes from a regional bakery and a direct-marketing butcher rather than generic festival fare. The scale is deliberately small: this is a producer-conversation event, not a large fairground.
Launched in 2025 as Bavaria's first wine festival to pour exclusively certified-organic wine, the Bio-Weinfest is much younger than FÖW, its organizing association, which has represented Franconian organic winegrowers since 1991 — a 34-year gap worth keeping separate in mind. With Würzburg hosting at least seven other, differently-named wine festivals across the same season, the organic-exclusive angle is what distinguishes this one from the city's larger, longer-established Weindorf and Hofschoppenfest. History
The Bio-Weinfest launched in June 2025 as Bavaria's first wine festival pouring exclusively certified-organic wine — its 2026 edition is only the second. It's organized by the Bund Fränkischer Ökowinzer und -Weingüter e.V. (FÖW), a Franconian organic-winegrowers' association founded in 1991, together with the Landkreis Würzburg's Öko-Modellregion stadt.land.wü. sustainability programme; FÖW's own 34-year institutional history is separate from, and considerably older than, the festival itself.
