The full story

Schweinfurt's Volksfest is Lower Franconia's largest travelling funfair, filling the city's Festplatz near the Sachs-Stadion for a full ten days every June — longer than most Franconian Volksfeste. The 2026 edition ran 5–14 June, opening with the mayor's traditional beer-tap ceremony and an opening-night fireworks display, and closing ten days later with the Abschlussfeuerwerk. Grounds entry is free throughout; visitors pay only for rides, tent seating, and food and drink.

Alongside a large ride park — with the kind of drop towers and coasters more typical of bigger German fairs — the festival tent Festzelt Papert anchors the evening social scene with live bands, and the wider ten-day program mixes in themed days: a Ladies Night with discounted attractions, a family-friendly midweek afternoon, and comedy nights. The festival traces back to the early twentieth century, spending its first fifty years on the Bleichrasen, an island in the Main, before river weir construction forced a move to the current Niederwerrner Straße grounds around 1959; the festival marked its centennial in 2009 with a revived parade tradition.

Beer at the tents comes from Kulmbacher Brauerei, including a non-alcoholic wheat beer, alongside a dedicated Volksfestbier from Brauerei Roth at around 5.7% ABV and a Brezengarten pouring specialty and non-alcoholic drinks. The ten-day run makes it an easy multi-day anchor for a Lower Franconia visit, with the opening and closing fireworks nights standing out as the two evenings worth planning around.
