Quick answer

The Traunsteiner Frühlingsfest is Chiemgau's spring Volksfest, held 8–17 May 2026 on the Festplatz at Siegsdorfer Straße in Traunstein — not to be confused with Munich's much larger Frühlingsfest at the Theresienwiese. Beer comes from Brauerei Wochinger, Traunstein's smallest and, at 439 years old, one of Germany's oldest continuously family-run breweries; the festival itself is much younger, having been deliberately redesigned by the city council in 2024 with a larger Festzelt, a 500-seat beer garden, and the now-signature Almstadl.

Chiemgau’s big spring Volksfest — Wochinger Festbier, oversized Festzelt, Almstadl, and a Sunday Festzug.

The Traunsteiner Frühlingsfest runs 8–17 May 2026 on the Festplatz at Siegsdorfer Straße, with a 2,500-capacity Festzelt and the smaller, later-running Almstadl. A Festzug of Trachten- and Brauchtumsvereine processes from the Stadtplatz to the Festgelände on Sunday 10 May at 11:45, and the closing Sunday features Bierzelt-Boxen.

The full story

The Traunsteiner Frühlingsfest is Chiemgau's marquee spring Volksfest, and its most useful editorial hook is a genuinely recent one: in 2024 the city council deliberately redesigned a format it judged "a little worn out," installing a larger 2,500-capacity Festzelt, a 500-seat beer garden, the now-signature Almstadl, a new rides layout, and an online table-reservation system. The 2026 edition runs 8–17 May on the Festplatz at Siegsdorfer Straße, opening Friday with a Bieranstich led by the Stadtmusik Traunstein, building through a Sunday Festzug of Trachten- and Brauchtumsvereine from the Stadtplatz, and a dedicated Familientag on the following Monday with discounted rides and a children's disco.

The beer itself comes from Brauerei Wochinger, Traunstein's smallest brewery and, at 439 years old, one of Germany's oldest continuously family-run breweries — a genuinely strong local-beer story, though one that belongs to the brewery's own age, not the festival's. Split an evening between the traditional, live-band Festzelt and the later-running, DJ-driven Almstadl, or extend the night at Kafka Club & Culture's organized aftershow party on select nights. Just keep "Traunstein" attached to any search: "Frühlingsfest" alone is shared by Munich's far larger Theresienwiese edition and, this year, by an identically dated festival in Cham. Frequently asked questions

When is Traunsteiner Frühlingsfest in 2026?
8–17 May 2026 on Festplatz Traunstein (Siegsdorfer Straße). Festzelt daily from 11:00 (opening day from 16:00); Almstadl daily from 17:00; rides from 13:30 weekdays, Familientag (11 May) from 12:00.
Who pours the beer?
Brauerei Wochinger Traunstein pours the festival beer; the Festwirte are Rudi Zeif (Traunstein) and Valentin Thannbichler (Übersee).
Can I reserve a table?
Yes — reserve online in advance through the festival's WoWeBa booking system.
How do I get there?
Festplatz Siegsdorfer Straße, 83278 Traunstein — a few minutes’ walk from Traunstein Bahnhof. ~500 on-site parking spaces; alternatives include Schwimmbad lot (€3) and Karl-Theodor-Platz (P2). Rufbus and weekend NachtExpress also serve the area.
What are the rides' opening hours?
Rides open Monday–Friday from 13:30 (Familientag, 11 May, from 12:00); Saturday and Sunday from 11:00.
Is this the same as Munich's or Cham's Frühlingsfest?
No — 'Frühlingsfest' is a generic German festival name. Munich runs its own, much larger Frühlingsfest at the Theresienwiese (60th edition in 2026), and Cham's own Frühlingsfest happens to share these identical 8–17 May 2026 dates. This is Traunstein's own edition on the Festplatz at Siegsdorfer Straße, Chiemgau.
