Quick answer
Volksfest Schrobenhausen is a volksfest in Schrobenhausen, Bavaria. It runs from May 7–11, 2026. Spring folk fest in the asparagus capital — Festzelt, rides, and Spargelkönigin crowning.
Five May days on the Stiefsche Wiese — Festzelt, fairground, and Spargelkönigin crowning in Bavaria's asparagus town.
Schrobenhausen's spring Volksfest sits on the Stiefsche Wiese with a mid-size Festzelt, carnival rides, and a program built around family Saturday, the Spargelkönigin crowning on Sunday, and a quieter Monday close. Local beer from Brauerei Kühbach and classic Bavarian tent food define the mood more than tourist crowds.
The full story
Volksfest Schrobenhausen turns the Stiefsche Wiese — also known as the Volksfestplatz, at Aichacher Straße 21 — into a five-day spring fair each May, run by the same family, the Stiefs of Gasthaus zum Schimmelwirt, that has organized it for decades. The 2026 edition, its 56th, runs Thursday 7 through Monday 11 May, opening with a town-hall concert, a procession to the grounds, and the mayor's ceremonial keg-tap, then moving through a club-and-business Friday, a family Saturday with a free children's puppet show, and a Sunday built around church services, the crowning of the Schrobenhausener Spargelkönigin in the Festzelt that evening, and fireworks — before a quieter Monday of a seniors' afternoon and an evening Frühschoppen. Grounds admission is free; visitors pay per ride, game, and drink inside the Lanzl-run Festzelt, which pours beer from Brauerei Kühbach, a Schlossbrauerei in the Freiherr von Beck-Peccoz family's hands since 1862.
The fair's founding year is unstated. The "56th edition" framing might suggest an early-1970s start by simple arithmetic, but a confirmed 2021 COVID-19 cancellation breaks that math. That's a separate question from the Spargelkönigin crowning tradition itself, which was founded in 1975 on Jakob Stief's idea and marked its 50th anniversary in 2025 — a milestone that belongs to the crowning ritual staged inside the fair, not to the Volksfest as a whole.
Worth keeping distinct: Schrobenhausen also runs a separate, earlier Spargelfest each April at Lenbachplatz, organized by the regional asparagus growers' association — a different event, on different grounds, from this May Volksfest. See Volksfest Schrobenhausen page or explore Upper Bavaria.
