Three-day brewery open-air beer festival with Weißbierkarussell and free Sunday family day, 19–21 June 2026, Zwiefalten.
Zwiefalter's Bierfestival is a brewery-run open-air weekend at the Zwiefalter Klosterbräu's own grounds, built around the famous rotating Weißbierkarussell. Fr/Sa entry is free until 19:00; Sunday is Familientag with free entry all day. The 2026 edition runs 19–21 June; the next edition is confirmed for 18–20 June 2027.
The full story
Zwiefalten's Bierfestival is not a municipal Volksfest — it's staged directly by the Zwiefalter Klosterbräu on the brewery's own Logistik-Areal grounds at the edge of town, with camping on an adjoining orchard meadow. The signature draw is the Weißbierkarussell, a rotating beer-service carousel strung with more than 5,000 LED lights — a feature unique to Zwiefalten's Bierfestival. Friday and Saturday are costume-and-party nights with live rock and party bands; Sunday flips the tone entirely into a free-all-day Familientag with brass music, a Weißwurst breakfast, roasted ox on the spit, and coffee and cake.
Admission runs on a simple structure: Friday and Saturday are free until 19:00, with an evening box office after that, while Sunday's family day is free all day. Camping on the adjoining meadow is a popular way to turn the weekend into a self-contained stay, and tickets for it are limited enough that they're worth booking as soon as they're published. In 2026 specifically, Saturday's programme also carried a live screening of a World Cup match — a scheduling coincidence tied to that year's tournament calendar rather than a fixture visitors should expect at every edition.
The brewery itself carries real weight here: its own brewing tradition traces back to 1521, tied to the Benedictine monastery that once stood in Zwiefalten, with the business in the Baader family's hands since 1897. That roughly 500-year pedigree belongs to the brewery and the old monastery, though — not to this festival, whose own founding year and edition count are unstated. The festival's next edition, following this one, is confirmed for 18–20 June 2027. See the Zwiefalter Bierfestival page or explore Beyond Bavaria.
History
The Zwiefalter Klosterbräu's own brewing tradition traces back to 1521, when beer was first brewed at the Benedictine monastery in Zwiefalten (founded 1089); the brewery has been owned by the Baader family since 1897. That roughly 500-year pedigree belongs to the brewery and the old monastery, not to this festival — the Bierfestival's own founding year, edition count, and early history are unstated, so it isn't assumed to share the brewery's much older date.
