Worth the detour

Beyond Bavaria

A hand-picked collection of beer and wine festivals outside Bavaria — not a region, not a road trip, just five events worth knowing about.

Happening Now & Next, Beyond Bavaria

Five events, five different cities — in date order.

What this page is

This isn't a region — it's a curated collection of non-Bavarian beer and wine events: Lübeck, Speyer, Erfurt, Zwiefalten, and Bad Dürkheim. These five places aren't near each other, and nothing here should be read as a suggested route between them. Use this page to compare event dates and formats, not to plan one connected trip.

Beer formats and one wine tradition

The five events split into four beer formats and one wine tradition. Lübeck's Bierfest is a free, open city-market event with more than 100 beers in the UNESCO Old Town. Speyer's Bier Lust Festival is a ticketed craft-beer tasting weekend. Erfurt's Flanieren mit Bieren is a beer-and-food weekend where the day ticket includes a keepable tasting glass. Zwiefalten's Bierfestival is a three-day open-air brewery event with a free Sunday family day. Bad Dürkheim's Wurstmarkt stands apart as the collection's wine event — Pfalz wine, 36 Schubkarch stands, and roughly 300 wines and sparkling wines, with more than 600 years of documented tradition behind it, developed from a pilgrimage-related celebration.

Three overlapping weekends, then one in June, then September wine

Early May is the busiest stretch: Bierfest Lübeck (May 8–10), Bier Lust Festival in Speyer (May 8–9), and Flanieren mit Bieren in Erfurt (May 8–9) all overlap — pick one by format and destination rather than assuming they can be combined. Zwiefalter Bierfestival follows in June (19–21). Bad Dürkheim's Wurstmarkt runs in September, split across two periods: September 11–15 and September 18–21, 2026.

Practical planning

No verified route, journey time, or combined-trip information exists between these five destinations. Treat each as a separate destination and check its own event page for current transport and ticket details — note that entry models differ: Lübeck and the Wurstmarkt are free to enter (with purchases on site), while Speyer is explicitly ticketed.
