Quick answer
The 64th Taufkirchener Volksfest runs 10–19 July 2026 at Festwiese Hilpolding in Taufkirchen an der Vils, Landkreis Erding — not the Munich suburb of the same name. It opens Friday 10 July with the Festhalle from 17:00; Saturday 11 July brings the Volksfestauszug parade and O'zapfa keg-tapping. First held in 1960, it's the second-largest Volksfest in the district after the Erdinger Herbstfest.
- Best for
- Erding-district Volksfest seekers wanting a mid-July Festhalle week outside Munich, plus anyone curious about the real story behind the festival's own beer — the Taufkirchner Brauerei's float leads Saturday's parade, and the brewery's own history (1642) runs three centuries deeper than the festival itself (1960).
- Booking urgency
- Medium for peak Saturday Auszug/O'zapfa — Festhalle table reservations are worth arranging before travel for that evening specifically; other nights are generally open seating.
64th Taufkirchener Volksfest on Festwiese Hilpolding — 10–19 July 2026 in Taufkirchen an der Vils (Erding district), not Munich-Taufkirchen.
The 64th Taufkirchener Volksfest runs 10–19 July 2026 at Festwiese Hilpolding — this is Taufkirchen an der Vils in Landkreis Erding, not the Munich suburb of the same name. The Festhalle opens Friday 10 July from 17:00; Saturday 11 July brings the traditional Volksfestauszug parade (around 40 local clubs, four brass bands, and the Taufkirchner Brauerei's own float) followed by the mayor's O'zapfa keg-tapping. Regional press has called it the second-largest Volksfest in Landkreis Erding after the Erdinger Herbstfest. A separately ticketed concert runs the evening before the festival opens (Thursday 9 July) in the same hall — it isn't part of the festival's own free-entry programme.
The full story
Every July, Festwiese Hilpolding in Taufkirchen an der Vils — a Landkreis Erding town easily confused with the Munich suburb of the same name — fills for the Taufkirchener Volksfest. The 2026 edition, the 64th, runs 10–19 July, opening Friday with the Festhalle from 17:00 and building to Saturday's Volksfestauszug: around 40 local clubs, four brass bands, and a ceremonial float from the town's own brewery, followed by the mayor's traditional O'zapfa keg-tapping. Grounds access is free; food, beer, and rides in the Festhalle are paid.
The festival's own history is more recent than the town's. The first Taufkirchener Volksfest was held in May 1960, staged jointly with the considerably older Adlberger Markt — a spring market fair that moved to Taufkirchen in 1689 after a local baron acquired the estate, centuries before this festival existed. The Taufkirchner Brauerei, whose Festmärzen fills the tent every year and whose float leads Saturday's parade, is older still: its first documented brewhouse dates to 1642, and a local cooperative bought and saved the brewery in 1917 rather than let it close. None of that older history belongs to the Volksfest itself, which marks 2026 as its 64th edition — a fest with real local roots, just younger ones than its neighbors.
Regional press has called it the second-largest Volksfest in Landkreis Erding after the Erdinger Herbstfest, and the ten-day run gives it more staying power than most neighborhood fests. A separately ticketed concert the evening before the festival opens (Thursday 9 July) runs in the same hall but isn't part of the festival's own free-entry programme — worth knowing before assuming everything that week is covered by one ticket policy. See Taufkirchener Volksfest or explore Upper Bavaria.
History
The first Taufkirchener Volksfest was held in May 1960, staged jointly with the older Adlberger Markt — a spring market fair that predates it by centuries and moved to Taufkirchen in 1689 after a local baron acquired the estate. The two events are easy to conflate since they share a town and, in later decades, a calendar season, but they're separate institutions with separate origins. The festival's beer comes from the Taufkirchner Brauerei at Schloss Taufkirchen, whose first documented brewhouse dates to 1642 — older still, and also unrelated to the festival's own 1960 start; the brewery's float leads the Saturday parade, which is the real connective tissue between the two. 2026 marks the 64th edition.
