Weismain's Kirchweihmarkt is a single Sunday goods market that the city administration runs on the Marktplatz, timed to fall inside the town's larger Kirchweih weekend. The Marktplatz market's own founding year is unstated. That's worth stating plainly because Weismain's history offers several older, unrelated dates that shouldn't be mistaken for the market's own age: the town's brass-music tradition traces back to 1743, the separate Weismainer Kirchweih festival at Kastenhof was founded in 1968, and Kastenhof itself is first documented in 1479 as the seat of the Bamberg prince-bishop's tax collector. None of those belong to this Sunday market, which reads as a younger, undated addition to the weekend. The Marktplatz where it's held is genuinely old, though — ringed by half-timbered buildings from the 16th to 18th centuries, a stone Rathaus predating 1543, and a Rolandsbrunnen knight statue from the 1570s, inside a town whose walls and towers date to the 14th century.
